at the St. Paul Central High School, where he became interested in all sports and in dramatics. He attended the University of Minnesota for a year, but left to take a position in a bank, lie soon tired of this and entered an architect’s office. While working there he attended an evening s vuCarnatic actors, which led to him getting a position with a local movie company. After a year in New York he was suddenly called home by the death of his father. Being the main support of his mother and sister, and earning but small pay in the local stock companies. Richard decided to go West. I>ix soon became a movie star. Some of his pictures for Paramount are “The Vanishing Race,” “The Quarterback,” and “Knock-out Reilly.” “Sporting Goods” is his latest release in New Zealand. "Warming Up,” recently completed at Paramount’s Hollywood studios, has many sequences' with sound synchronised effects. A sincere and dignified presentation of "Sapper’s” well-known story. ‘Poppies of Flanders,” in which Kve Grey and James Thomas, one of Britain’s best stage actors, and a newcomer to the screen, take the principal parts, is well acted, well taken, photographed and titled. Its sentimental and emotional appeals are strong and convincing, whilst the humorous touches are light without any exaggerated comedy situations.
