HOME FOR GIRL GUIDES

PROPERTY AT GLEN EDEN GIFT TO ASSOCIATION Through the generosity of Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Wilson and Mrs. Roy Wilson, a commodious home lias been presented to the New Zealand Girl Guides’ Association. The property, which is named “Otaimai,” lies about four miles from the Glen Eden railway station, off Kauri Road, a short distance from the West Coast Road, and comprises 10 acres. It stands high, and from the verandahs a fine panorama spreads away to the city in the eastern background. During the coming summer months hundreds of Guides from all parts of the Dominion will be able to enjoy open air life in beautiful bush-clad country. The house itself has spacious rooms and will allow plenty of room for indoor activities. . This is the first Guides’ home of its kind in New- Zealand, and although it will be used for the most part by Auckland members, it is intended that it will be used as a national rallying place. and that it will be to New Zealand what “Foxlease,” the Guides’ centre in England, is to Great Britain. The Girl Guides Dominion Conference will be held at “Otaimai” next month, and delegates from all parts of the country will spend a whole day there. The donors have borne the whole cost of tlio new building, and they have also provided furnishings, including a piano, for the home.
