CONFERENCE OPENS IN AUCKLAND TALK ON TRADE PROBLEMS This morning the 12th annual conference of the New Zealand Grain, Seed and Produce Merchants’ Federation was opened in Auckland. The listed conference business • will end to-morrow. Mr. Charles F. Kosser, of Auckland, federation president, welcomed 3S delegates from all over New Zealand. He believed that a thorough discussion oL" problems affecting the seed, grain and produce trades would mean considerable* benefit. Mr. George Baildon, Mayor of Auckland, who welcomed, the delegates to the city, considered that, conferences similar to the present one tended to improve conditions in the trade. Yesterday the overseas and grading committees and the North Island and the South Island Associations went through conference preliminaries. This afternoon, wives of the delegates are to meet at afternoon tea. The conference will have a lull-day session, and this evening at the Commercial Travellers’ Club, about 90 will attend a dinner. To-morrow morning, cars will assemble at the Grand Hotel to taki about 120 of the party on an outing. Mount Eden, One Tree Hill. Papatoetoe and Titirangi will be among the places visited. Among the subjects to be discussed by the conference are grades, grading, the sending of grade samples overseas to promote interest in the trade, the review of the activities of the past year, seed trade with Hngland and trading terms with Australia. The report of the International Seeds Conference, held in Rome last May, will bo considered. The annual report of the executive for the year ended September 30, 1928, said that the balance sheet showed £165 15s 3d on the credit side. The finances were in the most satisfactory position recorded yet.
