BELGIUM’S FEARS

WILL GERMANY ATTACK AGAIN? (United P.A. — By Telegraph — Copyright) (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) * BRUSSELS, Wednesday. The Belgian Minister of Defence, Count de Brocqueville, speaking in the Senate, said Belgium still fears a sudden descent upon the country by Germany. Consequently precautions were essential, although the attack might not be so sudden as that of 1914. Six months’ military service was useless. It would leave the eastern garrisons open to attack for at least half the year. Ten months’ service would be little better, as that would leave the garrisons empty for two months. Moreover, little confidence could be reposed in troops trained for six months only. It would be. a misfortune if Belgium lost the first battle in a future war.
