Society Models Invade Chelsea
Pay Artists for Permission to Pose
(United P.A.—By Telegraph — Copyright) (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) Received 11.5 a.m. LONDON, Tuesday. THE “Evening Standard” makes the extraordinary revela- * tion that smart society women are offering- themselves as models at Chelsea studios “for amusement.” Regular models are being deprived of a livelihood owing to the remarkable invasion of society amateurs who are even willing to pay painters if they are allowed to pose. Furthermore, so keen are they that they even promise to use their social influence to secure portrait commissions. Painters say that they cannot afford to lose such chances. Moreover rich girls come to the task with enthusiasm, whereas many professional models are tired and blase. The latter are now seeking jobs as mannequins.
