As a tribute to the assistance be had always given the council, the Ohura County Council at its last meeting resolved to place on record its appreciation of the services rendered at all times by Mr. J. Mrs. Toll “threw the jack" and the season was declared open. Mr Todd wished the croquet ladies a good season, and played the first ball to officially open their greens to play. Fears are entertained by the Ohura County Council that pressure being brought to bear on the Railway Department to take over the Okahukura section of the Taumarunui-Stratford railway from the Public Works Department will not be in the interests of the district, in view of the attitude being adopted by various chambers of commerce and ratepayers' associations, and it lias been resolved to emphasise that it would be in the best interests of the ratepayers if the present arrangements continue till a connecion is made with the Stratford end.
