SUBURBAN CRICKET

MEETING OF EXECUTIVE COMPETITIONS ON NOVEMBER 3 The Suburban Cricket Association’s Management Committee met last evening, Mr. J. F. Dickson presiding. A vote of sympathy was passed to Mr. H. L. Claudet, chairman of the Umpires’ Association, who had been indisposed for some considerable time, with the result that his resignation had been forwarded. The secretary, Mr. E. Stallworthy, was deputed to confer with the Auckland Cricket Association with a view to making mutual arrangements for the allocation of wickets on the City Council’s grounds. The Green Lane Club advised that several of its members were unfinancial. It was decided not to take action until next meeting. Considerable discussion arose over the number of teams to be accepted in the senior A grade. The secretary reported that the Victoria Club, which won the B section last season, desired to play in the A grade, making seven, teams. Mr. A. Turner advocated that the strength of the teams should be taken into consideration and the number be six. Several delegates said a bye should be avoided, as players would not like to stand down for two Saturdays. Some motions and amendments were discussed before it was eventually decided to refer the nominations of teams in both sections to the executive, with power to grade and arrange the draw. It was decided to play two-day games in the senior A grade and oneday in,the senior B grade. The competitions will start on November 3, and play will commence each Saturday at 2 p.m., and terminate at 6.30 p.m. In answer to a question the chairman said the coach, Mr. G. Cox, would arrive in Auckland in time to play on November 10. The executive had not yet decided which club he would be affiliated to.
