NO INTERRUPTIONS
MR. MACMILLAN AT TAURANGA REFORM PARTY UPHELD (Special to THE SUN) TAURANGA, Tuesday. There were no interruptions at Air. C. E. Alacinillan’s meeting this evening, when he opened his campaign with an address at the Town Hall. The Alayor of Tauranga, Air. B. Dive, presided over a good attendance. Air. Alacmillan defended the Government’s policy and said that it had always taken care not to jeopardise the interest rates on any portion of the public debt when loans were being raised. Since the Reform Party took office £11,750,000 had been provided for housing and last year £3,750,000 had been spent on education. Air. Alacmillan went on to explain the tyre and petrol taxes, and the functions of the Alain Highways Boai'd, and went to some length in upholding the Government’s action in Samoa. The policy of the United Party was also referred to, All*. Macmillan stating that the best thing the party’s candidate could do in the Tauranga electorate would be to explain how the £70,000,000 loan would be obtained and spfent without raising the interest on the Public Debt. In reply to questions the member said that ho was in favour of the completion of the Paeroa-Pokeno railway, as it would mean so much to the Bast Coast distx'icts. Air. C. Whiting proposed and All*. W. F. Sinclair seconded, a hearty vote of thanks and confidence in Air Alacmillan as the Reform Party’s representative and confidence in the Government. ______________________
