ARAB RUNNER IN AMERICA (United Service) Reed. 9.5 a.m. NEW YORK, Monday. At Madison Garden, El Ouafi, the Arabian king of Olympic marathon runners, covered 26 miles 400yds in 2hrs 44min, defeating Joie Ray by three laps. It was Ray’s first professional marathon, and the fifth of his career. He kept on El Ouafl’s heels for 23 miles. The other contestants were miles behind.
