MAJESTIC

“THE BIG CITY” Variety is the keynote of the proof pictorial and musical fare now being offered at the Majestic Theatre. Thero is not a dull moment during the whole programme, and each attraction is different from its predeC °Tho’ chief attraction on the programme is “The Big City,” which has as its star the invincible Lon Chaney. Ho plays a gangster leader, using a cabaret as a cloak to his sinister activities, his partner operating a. clearing house for stolen goods, hiding this under tho guise of a little costume shop. Into this setting is introduced a little shopgirl, innnocent of the true nature of the pair. To her they are good friends, and her belief in them precipitates a climax as amazing as it is heart-gripping. Marceline Day is charming as the shopgirl, while James Murray as the young gangster who reforms through her influence to become her lover is convincingly natural in his part. First on the list of supparting pictorial attractions is a beautiful Australian scenic, “Six Days in Sunny New South Wales.” A Majestic News, which shows the latest topical news, including tho welcome of Miss Ivy Hawke, who recently swam the English Channel, and the burning of Captain Campbell’s famous racing car, “A New Zealand News and Views,” and a Lupino Lane comedy in which the star goes through many hilarious and thrilling adventures, are on the pictorial programme.

The musical programme provided by Mr. Whiteford Waugh “s Majestic Orchestra is an entertainment on its own. In response to many requests, “In a Persian Market,” Ketelby’s beautiful composition, is featured as the overture.
