SENSATIONAL CONVICT STORY “Condemned to Devil’s Island,” Blair Niles’s sensational story of the French penal colony in the Guianas, has been selected by Samuel Goldwyn as tho Ronald Colman picture to follow "The Rescue.” The Joseph Conrad story is now iu the final stages of production under the direction of Herbert Brenon. No director has yet been selected for Miss Niles’s story. The French Government has promised its complete co-operation to Mr. Goldwvn in tho making of the picture. Ronald Colman will probably head a company which will make a large part of the picture on the actual location. The French Government has also promised that it will place no obstacle in the way of exhibiting the picture in Fiance and its colonies. •‘Devil’s Island” is the French penal colony situated almost exactly on the equator in French Guiana, South America. It is the only remaining colonv of its kind in the world. Although ’’Devil’s Island" Is only a small part of tiic territory, it gives its name to the entire colony through the worldwide notoriety it received when Lieut. Dreyfus was imprisoned there more than 30 years ago.

This is the screen version of the play, "L’lnsoumise,” by Pierre Frondaie, ■which created an international sensation. Most of the action centres in Venice. Paris and on the Arabian desert. Magnificent sets, including a huge ball-room and reproductions of tho famous canals, were especially designed and constructed _ for this lavish production. Greta Nissen and Charles Farrell play the leads in this intensely dramatic story.
