CLAY-BIRD SHOOTING
AUCKLAND GUN CLUB There was a small, but enthusiastic, gathering at the Auckland Gun Club’s clay bird shoots held yesterday at Panmure. Two seven-bird matches were held prior to the big match, the first being divided by J. Robertson (17yds) and A. E. Powell (11yds), with the possible. A. E. Macredie (19yds) won the second outright with the possible. The chief match of 21 birds for the New Zealand Breweries’ handsome trophy was won by A. E. Macredie (19yds). with 20 kills, F. Curtis (16yds) being second with 18 kills, and C. E. Hodge (17yds) third, with 17 kills. A double rise match resulted in a tie between D. S. Ewing (13yds). C. E. Hodge (17yds) and D. Hannagan (14yds), with 7 kills out of a possible 10. Ewing won the shoot-off on the 16th bird. In these matches two birds are released simultaneously, and the shooter has to fire one barrel at each bird. Novelty events were won by D. Kellett, J. Reid, J. Hill, S. S. Sargent and O. Jensen. The next shoot will be held on Saturdav
