; MOTOR-SHIP KARAMEA ARRIVES. ; —The Shaw, Savill and Albion Company’s | new motor-ship Karamea arrived in thei stream at Auckland shortly after live j o'clock on Saturday afternoon after a i fine and uneventful voyage from London, ; via Panama. She berthed later at j Prince’s Wharf to land seven passengers, a large quantity of mail and about 5,000 tons of general merchandise. The remainder of the cargo is for Wellington. She is a sister ship to the company's new motor-ships Taranaki, Zealandic and Coptic, which have already visited Auckland and are said to be the highest-powered motor cargo vessels afloat. The Karamea was launched last May and was completed on August 21. She sailed from London, via Panama, on September 14 .and completed the voyage in 3o days, at an average speed of 13.7 knots. The speed on the trial trip was 15.6 knots, but during the voyage the engines were not fully opened i out. The following passengers arrived by the vessel: Mr. and Mrs. Stephens. Mrs. Napier, Mr. Richmond, Mr. Roddam, Dr. Gordon Rich, Mr. Millar, Mr. Robertson. Captain A. Mclntosh, who was previously master of the Mahia and the Kia Ora, is in command and the following are the officers: Chief, Mr. E. T. Grayston; second, Mr. F. Lutgens; third, Mr. A. C. Jones; fourth, Mr. W. Thompson; chief engineer, Mr. J. G. Fergnsson; senior second, Mr. A. Chalmers; junior second, Mr. W. Stevenson; senior third, Mr. J. S. Margitson; junior third, Mr. J. T. Oliver; senior fourth, Mr. J. Pt. McKenzie; junior fourth, Mr. S. G. Whitman; fifth. Mr. G. Birclienehough; sixth, Mr. T. Holiinger; seventh, Mr. E. Riches; chief refrigerating engineer, Mr. J. Wright; second, Mr. J. Docherty; chief electrician, Mr. P. C. Shaw; 'second, Mr. A. Wilkinson; third, -dr. C. Mackie; wireless operator, Mr. P. K. Rennie: chief steward, Mr. E. H. Simmons. A. S. Paterson and Company, Ltd., are the local agents.
