BUSINESS-MAN’S DEATH
MR. RANALD MACDONALD WELL KNOWN IN CHRISTCHURCH (Special to THE SUN) CHRISTCHURCH, To-day. The death has occurred of Mr. Ranald Mclntosh MacDonald, C.8.E., at the age of 68. Mr. MacDonald, who was born at Orari in 1860, was a son of Mr. W. K. MacDonald. In 1884 he married a daughter of Mr. George Gould, there being three sons and two daughters. He was apprenticed at the Addinfeton Workshops, finally becoming a partner in the firm of Booth, MacDonald and Company, and, later, of McLaren and MacDonald. He retired in 1889. He was a director of the Christchurch “Press,” and managing director of the Christchurch Tramways Company from its inception. He was also a member of the City Council. Mr. MacDonald was a prominent worker in England, where he went with the New Zealand Red Cross and War Contingent Association.
