BELLIGERENT SPANIARD
TOLD FRIEND TO RESIST CONSTABLE FINE OF £2 IMPOSED “Give it a go," said Antonio Alphonso to Robert Robinson, who was arrested in Federal Street on Saturday evening. That his advice was bad was clearly indicated at the Police Court thV morning when Alphonso was charged with obstructing Constable O’Sullivan and inciting Robinson to resist arrest. Robinson was charged with being disorderly while drunk in Federal Street and resisting arrest. According to Sub-Inspector McCarthy, Robinson gave little trouble until Alphonso advised him to make a bid for liberty. A crowd collected and several men held Alphonso, who was described on the charge sheet as a Spanish labourer, while the constable put the handcuffs on Robinson. Alphonso ’and Robinson were fined £2 and £1 respectively on the first charge in each case, being convicted and discharged on the second.
