HOLIDAY WEEK-END
LABOUR DAY ATTRACTIONS ROUND OF AMUSEMENTS Aucklanders have a wide choice of amusements for the extended holiday week-end. There ’"ill be a general holiday on IV;unday, Labour Day. AMONG the principal fixtures for city folk is the Labour Day sports in the Domain—an annual event, the popularity of which is never in doubt. Foot races, cycling, steeplechasing, hurdle events and Highland dancing are on the programme. Most of the bowling clubs have arranged matches, and a tournament will do held at the Carlton and Grey Lynn greens. Golf clubs have also arranged matches, and the annual tournament of the Maungakiekie Club will begin to-day and conclude on Tuesday. RACING FIXTURES As usual, there is a big and attractive racing programme. The Waikato Racing Club’s spring meeting is in progress this afternoon, and will continue on Monday. The Waikato Hunt Club will hold its meetings at Cambridge on Monday, and the Northland Trotting Club’s meeting will take place at Whangarei on Monday. This afternoon a special train left Auckland for Rotorua. It was well filled with week-end holiday-makers who will return on Monday, after taking advantage of the department’s 50 per cent, reduction in fares. A special train is being run toijiorrow from Whangarei to Opua. It will enable visitors to Whangarei to go as far as Russell for the weekend. LABOUR CONCERT To-morrow evening, Labour Sunday, will be marked by a special concert in the Majestic Theatre, when Mr. M. J. Savage, Deputy-Leader of the Labour Party, will speak. There will be a strong concert programme. On Monday, outboard speed-boat races will be held a. Buckland’s Beach. The first race will be started at 1 p.m., and a thrilling programme will be carried out.
