OIL AT NEW PLYMOUTH
GREAT EXPECTATIONS PLUGGING OPERATIONS +Prcss Association NEW PLYMOUTH Friday. Oil in considerable quantities will be struck at New Plymouth within about a fortnight if the anticipa* tions of the Blenheim Oil Reclamation Company are realised.
Tho flooding of the bores with water has, sinco the quest for petroleum began in New Plymouth, been the insurmountable difficulty. Now this difficulty in the Blenheim bore has been overcome, the Government mines engineer has certified that the water has been shut off satisfactorily. • This bore, years ago. was sunk to nearly 6,000 ft. It was some months ago plugged at 2,183 ft, and by a system of plugging at the water strata at 1.700 ft and forced injection of eight tons of cement where the new casing ends at that depth, a cement casing was formed for a considerable distance up outside of the pipe cutting off the water. It now remains to bore through toe plugs and to sink the casing to a depth of 2.140 ft to the stratum whence a hundred barrels a day flowed some years ago, and then the compan. hopes to secure a large flow of oil
