CAREER OF THE GREAT ACTOR

To-day Jannings is one of the finest dramatic actors in the world. After an extraordinarily successful career on the German stage and screen he was signed to appear exclusively in Paramount Pictures. Jannings was born in Brooklyn, New York, but before he

was a week old was taken to Germany. After a brief few years at school, he joined a travelling theatrical company, playing his first role when sixteen. Then followed a long period in which he played in theatres" all over the land ending up under con-

tract to Max Reinhardt, the director of one of the principal theatres in Berlin.

Some time later Jannings became interested in motion pictures and secured a small part in a production. He gained world-wide recognition a,fter his performance in “Passion” with Pola Negri, under the direction of Ernst Lubitsch, now an American director Then followed other pictures.

Since going to America Jannings has made four pictures for Paramount, “The Way of All Flesh,” “The Last Command,” “The Street of Sin,” and “The Patriot.” He is now engaged in the production of “Sins of the Fathers.” All of Emil Jannings’s pictures will be released in New Zealand.
