Going through the straight Pantler led from Askari. Carinthia and Pantagruel. with the rest of the field strung out. Nearing home Askari had charge from Carinthia and Pantagruel. The last-mentioned was in charge half-way down the straight, but Radiate finished with a fine late run. and won by a head from Pantagruel, with Askari three lengths away third, and Vexatious fourth. TAITA HANDICAP Of £260; 4 fur. 6 ADMIRAL DRAKE, 8.0 1 2 HEAD SPRANG, S.l 2 9—PASS BOOK, 7.8 3 Scratched: General Assembly, Cluny. Won by half a length, three-quarters of a length between second and third. Time, 50sec. A big field contested the Taita Handicap, Clever being the favourite. Hoad Serang missed the jump-out and Admiral Drake was soon in charge. He went on to win by half a length from Head Serang, who finished well and beat Pass Book by three-quarters of a length for second place, with Clever a good fourth. WAINUI HANDICAP Of £400; 1 mile 7 KING MIDAS, 7.12 1 3 PART AG A, 8.8 2 9—VIGILANCE, 7.7 3 All started. 4 Won by a length, three and a-half lengths between second and third. Time, 1.42 3-5. Battle Colours was a very warm favourite in the Wainui Handicap. Vigilance went to the front at the rise of the barrier, and led along the back from Chelone, Royal Game, and Partaga, with the favourite near the back of the field. Crossing the top, the order of the leaders was much the same, while and King Midas had moved up behind them, arid Battle Colours had improved his position. Once well into the straight, Partaga came to the front, but King Midas wore him down, and won by a length, with Vigilance three and a-half lengths away third, and Solrose and following. RIMUTAKA HANDICAP Of £260; 7 fur. RAMESES, 7.5 ..1 ROTOWHERO, 7.11 .. .. .. .. .. .. 2 KING QUEX, 7.0 3 Won by a length and a-half, half a length between second and third. Time, 1.29 1-5. There was a surprise for bettors in the Rimutaka Handicap, for which Teri, Mendip and Courageous were favourites in a good betting race. Courageous was cut out at the start and Mendip was left several lengths behind. Kameses and Kaha made most of the running and at the home turn Raineses took charge 'and in a good finish won by half a length from Rotowhero, with King Jest a length and a-half away third, and Tanagr i and Mendip next.
