WHANGAREI REGATTA

OCEAN RACE FOR KEELERS (Special to THE SUN) WHANGAREI, Thursday. An ocean race from Whangarei to Russell for keel yachts was proposed at the annual meeting of the Whangarei Harbour Regatta Association held last evening. It was decided to recommend to the sailing committee that such a race should be included in tho programme. The sailing committee recommended that the centreboard yacht race be divided into two classes. The committee will consider the idea. It was decided to hold tho regatta at Oneralii on New Year’s Day.

It was recommended to the rowing committee that the finishing point of the rowing course be made further down from the wharf. Mr. H. Hannam, the chairman of the rowing committee, is to furnish a report on the matter at the next meeting of the committee. Election of officers resulted: Patron. Mr. W. Jones, M.P.; president, Mr. H. Menzies; vice-presidents, Messrs. A. D. Weir and F. Murdoch; secretary, Mr. C. D. Maloney; treasurer, Mr. G. A Bathe!!; Messrs. W. A Wilkinson and E. G. Hewin were reelected Auckland and Russell representatives respectively.
