ROLLS CLOSE TO-DAY

ELECTORS MUST REGISTER LATE CLAIMANTS CANNOT VOTE After six o'clock this evening no names will be received for the supplementary electoral roll. Special provisions are being made for the reception up to that hour of written applications for enrolment. The nomination of mentary candidates closes on Octo* ber 29. The Maori elections are to be held on November 13, a day before the election of European representatives. The office of the registrar of electors, Mr. Frank Evans, High Street, will remain open until six o’clock this evening, and a special call will be made at the Chief Post Office at that hour for mail matter containing applications for enrolmentClaims for enrolment bearing a postmark after that time will not be included in this year’s roll, but will be recorded as enrolments for the next General Election. It is insufficient to have claims at the suburban post* offices by six o’clock. They must reach the Chief Post Office by that hour, in order that the registrar may complete the compilation of the list according to schedule. There is ono exception in the forwarding of enrolment claims. Electors in the Manukau electorate have their headquarters at Onehunga, and applications for enrolment must be forwarded to the registrar of electors, post office, Onehunga. All the other electorates axe handled by Mr. Evans at High Street. All claimants for enrolment who are too late for the supplementary rolls will be notified that they cannot vote. People whose names are ruled out on a certified roll, and who are legitimately entitled to vote, may record their vote by declaration at the polling booth. Where electors have been notified of their enrolment, and by a mistake their names do not appear on the roll, these electors too may vote by declaration. A false declaration at the polling booth makes the elector liable to a fine of £SO. It is estimated that in the majority of Auckland electorates the new enrolments—which, by the way, are compulsory by law —will approximate 2,000 voters. The date for the nomination of candidates has been fixed for October 29 sixteen days before the poll. The Maori nominations will close on the same day.
