PERSONAL. —Mr. G. W. Kent has joined the Kurow as chief officer after completion of his holidays. Mr. J. W. Knox reverts to the position of second officer. Mr. T. W. Germein is joining the Ngatoro as third officer, relieving Mr. H. Abernethy, who is transferring to the Ivaiwarra in a similar capacity, relieving Mr. G. M. Coote for his examination. Mr. F. S. Bowman is being appointed third officer of the Kakariki, vice Mr. L. A. English, who will await orders at Melbourne. Mr. W. Cole is joining the Marama as second officer at Sydney this week, relieving Mr. S. A. Smith for his holidays. NORTHUMBERLAND AT LONDON.—* According to cabled news received by the New Zealand Shipping Company, the Northumberland arrived at London on Sunday from Wellington. The ship sailed from there on September 1. RUAPEHU AT SOUTHAMPTON.—A cable message to the New Zealand Shipping Company reports that their liner Ruapehu arrived at Southampton on Monday from Wellington, en route to London. The vessel left Wellington on September 8. PORT WELLINGTON LEAVES HOME. —Cabled news has been received by the C. and D. Line that the Port Wellington left London on Sunday morning with general cargo to discharge at Auckland. Wellington and -New Plymouth. She is due at Auckland on November 23. PORT AUCKLAND TO LOAD.—The «. and 4 D. Line advises that the Port Auckland is due at New Zealand about November 4 from Port Kembla to load for London, at ports to be announced later. She is to sail from New Zealand at the beginning of December for London, via Panama. SAILED FROM LIVERPOOL.—The New Zealand Shipping Company has beeii notified by cablegram that the Federal steamer Somerset sailed from Liverpool last Saturday afternoon with general cargo to unload at Auckland, Napier, Wellington, Lyttelton, Timaru" and Dunedin. The vessel is due at Auckland on November 25. DEVON’S MOVEMENTS.—The New Zealand Shipping Company advises that the Federal steamer Devon is to ledve New Plymouth to-morrow for Wellington, where she is due on Saturday, to continue loading. The vessel is to sail from there on Tuesday for Napier and Auckland to fill up for New York, Halifax, London, and West Coast ports of Great Britain. TRANS-PACIFIC CARGO SERVICE.— The Waitemata, which left Los Angeles on October 12, is due at Auckland about November 6 and will go thence to Napier, Lyttelton, Dunedin, Nelson and New Plymouth, proceeding thence to Suva and Vancouver. The Waihemo, from Suva, arrived at Vancouver on Sunday, and will load there, at Powell River, Union Bay, Ocean Falls and San Francisco, clearing the lastnamed port about November 7 for Auckland, Wellington, Melbourne and Sydney. The Nordhval will load at Vancouver and San Francisco early in November for Auckland, Melbourne and Sydney. The* Wairuna arrived last night at Auckland, and will proceed thence tomorrow to Apia, Fanning Island. and Vancouver. The Waikawa cleared Bluff yesterday for Melbounrne and Sydney, to complete discharge of her Pacific Coast cargo, and will proceed thence to Suva and Vancouver. The Hauraki left Auckland at 10 p.m. on Monday, and is due at Wellington this morning. She will sail on Friday for Melbourne, Adelaide, Sydney and Vancouver. *

THE MAM I L US.—From London the Shaw, Savill and Albion steamer Mamilus is to sail on November 21 for Suva, Lyttelton, Port Chalmers and Timaru. She is due at Lyttelton on January 4. THE CANADIAN TRAVELLER. —Reported to have reached Colon last Sunday, the Canadian National steamer Canadian Traveller is en route from Montreal to New Zealand. She is due at Auckland about November 12, MAILS ARRIVING. —The chief postmaster reports that the It.M.S. Makura, from San Francisco, is due at Wellington on October 22. She has 379 bags of English and American mail for Auckland. The latter portion should reach here on Tuesday morning, October 23. MAI MO A FROM LIVERPOOL.—With cargo from West Coast ports of Great Britain the Shaw, Savill and Albion steamer Maimoa is to leave Liverpool for Auckland,* Wellington. Lyttelton and Dunedin on November 10. She is due at Auckland on December 18. PORT CURTIS FROM NEW YORK.— The Commonwealth and Dominion Line steamer Port Curtis is scheduled to leave New York on October 26 with case oil and general cargo for Auckland, Napier, Wellington, Lyttelton and Dunedin. MAKURA FROM SAN FRANCISCO.— With passengers, mail and cargo from San Francisco, Papeete and Rarotonga, the Royal Mail liner Makura is due at Wellington on Monday. Owing to the day being a holiday the vessel will resume her voyage to Sydney at noon on Wednesday. THE CANADIAN B RITISH ER.—Advice received by the Canadian National Steamships states the Canadian Britisher reached New York on October 31, and sailed the following day in continuation of her voyage from Auckland to Boston and Montreal. She was dispatched from Auckland on September 3. PASSENGERS ON CHITRAL. —Russell and Somers. Limited, have received advice that the following passengers for New Zealand are travelling by the P. and O. liner Chitral, which is due at Sydney from London to-day:—Mrs. and Misses C2) Herbert, Mrs. Natusch, Mr. and Mrs. Court, Miss Graham, Mr. Baker, Mr., Mrs. and Misses (2> Johnstone, Miss Gulverwell, Misses (2) Nathan, Miss Barton, Mr. and Mrs. Franklin, Mr. Whitaker, Mrs. Summers, Mr., Mrs. and Miss Jordan, Miss Farley, Mr., Mrs. and Miss Burton Mrs. and Messrs. Baker (2). LIONEL WITH CASE OlL.—The Norwegian motor-ship Lionel arrived at Auckland yesterday afternoon with a cargo of 8,130 tons of sulphur from Galveston, Texas, and berthed at King’s Wharf. The vessel sailed from Galveston on September 10. She reached Colon on September 17 and cleared Balboa the following day. Generally fair weather prevailed on the voyage, until last Friday, when a south-west gale and high head seas were encountered. The storm continued for three days, and at times the vessel could only progress at about half her normal speed. On Tuesday the weather improved and better progress was made to port. The Lionel was at Auckland in January, 27, when she unloaded case oil from Texas. Since then she lias been engaged mostly in the America-Australian trade. She carries a crew of 31 all told, and Captain M. Loftdahl ip in command. The local agents, Messrs. Robert Millar and Company, advise that after discharging 2,200 tons the Lionel is to be dispatched to-morrow for New Plymouth, Melbourne and Port Lincoln to complete.
