LETTING CROWN LANDS

SIR J. GUNSON’S POLICY ADDRESS AT BIRKENHEAD Sir James Gunson, official Reform candidate for the Auckland Suburbs seat, addressed an enthusiastic audience of about 500 in the Foresters’ Hall, Birkenhead, last evening. Mr. E. G. Skeates, Mayor of Birkenhead, was in the chair. Speaking of unemployment. Sir James described its causes, and proposed remedial measures. In this connection, he said that part of his latid policy would be the encouragement of settlers by letting Crown Lands, which were at present idle, free of charge. Referring to the harbour bridge. Sir James said he was definitely in favour of the project, and pledged himself to work with a view to getting it built as soon as possible. In his opinion, the project should be carried on m the main by the Public Works Department and the Main Highways Board, supplemented by assistance from Auckland city and the local oodies concerned. A vote of thanks and confidence in Sir James Gunson and the Reform Party was carried by an overwhelming majority on a show of hands.
