TROUBLE IN FRUIT-SHOP
TWO MEN FINED (From Our Ovsn Correspondent) WHANGAREI, Tuesday. There were lively scenes in a fruit shop at Whangarei when George Day and Ernest Dallas paid it a visit. In the Police Court, when Day was charged with assault and drunkenness and Dallas with disorderly conduct, Sergeant O’Grady said the pair entered Smith’s fruit shop and commenced to interfere with the customers and business. They became abusive and Day struck the proprietor. After being put outside the shop they each picked up a tray of flowers and dashed them on the pavement. Day was convicted and discharged on the charge of drunkenness and on the charge of assault he was convicted and fined £l, in default 4S hours’ imprisonment. Dallas pleaded guilty and elected to b© dealt with summarily. He was convicted and discharged on the first charge, and was convicted and fined £ 1 for using obscene language, in default 48 hours’ imprisonment.
