MOSCOW'S EYE ON N.Z.
PROSPECTS WEIGHED SAILORS’ AND MINERS’ UNIONS (United P.A.—By Telegraph — Copyright) (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) Times Cable. Reed. 12.20 p.m. LONDON, Monday. The Riga correspondent of “The Times” reports that a special sitting of the executive bureau of the Profintern considered the “present revolutionary situation in connection with ’ ’'**■'* new strike wave,” and what changes were advisable in the methods to be employed to stimulate the « strike movement in Australia and elsewhere. The financial report states that Moscow lias already sent the Australian strikers £9,000. A great part of the sitting was devoted to the prospects in New Zealand, where the most revolutionary elements are concentrated in the Sailors’ and Miners’ Unions, which for several years have maintained relations, and, it is now hoped, will affiliate with the Profintern. The Riga correspondent of the “Daily Mail” says the Moscow newspaper “Pravda” asserts that strikes in Australia, Poland and Czechoslovakia mark the beginning of a new wave of labour disturbances which will sweep the world. It lays stress on the fact that long accounts are published in all the Russian newspapers about the unrest, in Australia and other countries. The “Pravda” adds: “For the Third (Communist) International this is the signal for the beginning of class warfare. Much depends on the activity •of the Communist agitators abroad who are actingunder Moscow’s instructions as regards the control of strikes and the beginning of class conflicts.” STRIKE AT LODZ The Warsaw correspondent of the “Mail” says a general strike has been proclaimed at Lodz as a sequel to a strike by 200,000 textile workers. Communists, who apparently are plentifully supplied with funds, are arriving at Lodz from all parts of Poland. Crowds ot- agitators to-day assembled outside the prisons and demanded the release of political prisoners.
A state of emergency has been declared and the military authorities are taking special precautions.
