“WE WILL KEEP ASHES”
“PLUM” WARNER’S VIEWS POWERFUL BATTING SIDE (Australian and N.Z. Press Associatiori) Reed. 11.28 a.m. LONDON, Monday. “I cannot see any Australian bowlers getting us out at a reasonable cost. Australia, too, is immensely powerful in batting, but we have heavier metal in Tate and Larwood, which may just turn the scale in our favour. “Hammond, too, should be a useful bowler, therefore I think England will win the rubber.” That is “Plum” Warner’s summing up in the "Morning Post” of England’s chances. “On Australian wickets we need super-bowlers. Happily, Tate is still with us. He will get better fielding support than four years ago. No anxiety need be felt about our batting, and I am confident our fielding will win a high reputation. Given ordinary luck in casualties, weather, and the toss, we should retain the Ashes. Nevertheless, Australia has much young talent, which augurs well for the future.
