PRIZES IN ORAL FRENCH
PRESENTATION BY CONSUL Prizes which had been won in the recent oral competition of the Auckland French Club were presented by M. Paul Serre, Consul for France, at the club’s annual meeting' last evening. The winners were: J. G. .Ilarkness, King’a College; Misses R. M. Macky, M. R. Warren, N. E. Callis, Epsom Girls’ Grammar School; J. Milne, King’s College; J. L. Mandeno, Auckland Grammar School; F. J. Ness, Mount Albert Boys’ Grammar School. Officers elected for the coming year were: President, Mr. Ardern; vicepresidents, Madame Folley and Mr. Francis; secretary, Mr. Bassant: treasurer, Miss Jennings; librarian, Miss G. Van Osselaer; committee, Miles. Hall, Lo Houx, Musseler, Guthrie, Mmes. Palazzi-Harte and Sullivan, i MM. Coldham, Straubel, Robins, £>. , Fagan; auditor, Mr. B ; Clark. Mrs. J. J. Sullivan arranged a musical programme. Amoi g the items were songs by Mrs. Sullivan and Mr. G. ! Fagan; pianoforte solos by Miss O’Leary; and an instrumental trio by the Missies Moore. “The Marseillaise” was sung at the end. This month the club will hold a dance. QUERY CLUB MEETING ARRANGEMENTS FOR FETE The Query Club held a meeting yesterday afternoon, when Miss Tapper presided over a larae attendance of members. Final arrangements were made for the garden fete to bo held this month in aid of the Mayoress’ Libary League, in which members are assisting. They are also assisting at the fair which will be held on Novenjr ber 3 in aid of the funds of the National Council of Women. It was decided to give a donation from the club’s funds to the hospital patients’ I wireless fund, and also to the St. John Ambulance Association. The remainder of the afternoon \yas J spent in social intercourse, and a j competition was held, the winner being Miss Mana Bishop. , WAIMARINO CARNIVAL “MISS RAETIHI” LEADING The following are the latest results; “Miss Raetihi,” 2,974 votes; “Miss Junction,” 2,942; “Miss Ohakune,” 2,920; “Miss Rangataua.” 2,552. LYCEUM CLUB BRIDGE CIRCLE The lounge of the Lyceum Club was attractively arranged with bowls of spring flowers yesterday afternoon, when the members of the bridge circle held their monthly meeting.
