THEFT OF A SWAG

(From Our Own Correspondent) KAETIHI, Tuesday. At the Raetihi Police Court on Monday, before Messrs. W. H. Sandford and A. B. Harris, J.P.’s, James Fredericksen was charged with the theft of a swag containing an eiderdown quilt, rug, blanket, and mattress, valued at £ 3 10s, the property of J Simpson. Accused, for whom Mr. Ritchie appeared, pleaded guilty. Counsel said accused had taken some liquor, and lifted the swag from the hut. He intended to return it, but the police had been informed before the articles were brought back to the owner. Accused was convicted and fined £3.. with court costs 10s.
