UNIVERSITY BENEFITS COLLEGE COUNCIL MEETS A report from the committee dealing with the Philson Trust was received at yesterday’s meeting of the Auckland University College Council, over which Sir George Fowlds preaided. It stated that £ 100 a year was now available for the purchase of medical books for the medical library. In consequence of painstaking administration of the fund by the trustees, it had Increased from .£286 to over £2,100. Thu trustees had discharged their duties gratuitously over a long period of years, and they merited the thanks Of the college. I', was decided to call applications for the position of full-time lecturer in building for the school of architecture at a salary of £SOO a year. A letter from the professor of architecture stated that A. L. Salmond was placed first in the competition for the Brick Manufacturers* Scholarship, wi*h A. J. Sedcole second. As Mr. Salmond’s was a non-competitive entry. Mr. Sedcole was awarded first prize. University Senate had made application for grants from the Carnegie Endowment of £4,000 for each of the university colleges, and £2,000 each for the agricultural colleges. It was decided that the Duffus Lubecki scholarship should be awarded to the present holder, L. H. Briggs, for a further year.
