WAIHI GOES GAY

MAYORAL CHAIN OF SAUSAGES “SPOTTING” COMPETITION POPULAR (From Our Oven Correspondent) WAIHI, Monday. Favoured with fine weather for the opening ceermony, Waihi's shopping week and carnival bids fair to be a great success. 0 The unofficial opening by an unofficial Mayor was witnessed by a large crowd at the Seddon Memorial. Dressed in a disreputable-looking “robe de boudoir,” a “dicer” liat, and a string of sausages in lieu of a chain of office, “his worship” caused a good deal of amusement by his references to well-known politicians and local celebrities. Crowds thronged the business centre during the afternoon, the “spotting” competition being popular with people of all ages. Balloons were released with prize tickets attached, and children’s sports were held in Seddon Street. Each day new competitions and sporting events will be introduced, and a grand finale and welcome to the “Waybacks” will be held on Friday night.
