MAIN HIGHWAY PAYMENTS WORK ON BRIDGES The Mailukatl County Council, at its meeting to-day, received a letter from the Main Highways Board advising the payment of the following amounts to the council’s account: Maintenance. Mangere-Papatoetoe Main Highway. £l6 2s 6d: Panmure to Howlok. £74 ISs Sd; Great South Road, £59 19s Id. , . _ .. Construction. Smith s Bridge, Brookby, £213 2s 6d: Mill Road Bridge, £270 18s 9d; Clevedon to Miranda, £773 10s- Great South Road, Papatoetoe section, £716 10s; Papakura section, £1,264. The board also advised that £I,OOO (£ for £) had been voted for the Papakura Stream Bridge, and £15,000 (£3 for £1) had been voted for the PanmureHowick Road reconstruction The engineer reported that the expen—diture of the Public Works grants led to a full programme of work for the summer. Preparations were well forward and some contracts would be put m hand immediately, and others as formalities were completed. . . Mill Road, Bridge, in the Papakura Riding, had been in use for a month and had not developed any defects. The metalling of the approaches would be undertaken at an early dat--. Smith s Bridge construction was practically completed , and approaches were iveing filled. Tf was expected that tile bridge would be open for' traffic by the end of this month. The inspector reported that -3 applications for the erection of dwellings and other buildings, and alterations to the total value of £12,399 had been received. The Auckland Aero Club wrote thanking the council for assistance given the elLb in connection with the recent visit of the Tasman flyers. . . _ The Minister of Public Worxs advised that it was his intention to set up a com—mit tee in an advisory capacity m connection with the motor-vehicles supplementary regulations. It was decided to accede to the^roposal.
