SERIOUS LONDON BLAZE DAMAGE OF £IOO,OOO _i British Official Wireless RUGBY. Sunday. Damage estimated at more than £IOO,OOO was caused by a fire at a wallpaper and varnish factory in Chiswick, London, on Thursday. Fortyfire engines were engaged and the firemen and ambulance men stood by throughout the night. Efforts to prevent the flames reaching the public library in the vicinity and a large garage, where petrol was stored in underground tanks, were succesful. As a precautionary measure 28,000 volumes were removed from the library. Many of the firemen were overcome in a fight with the flames, which lasted more than 12 hours.
