BROKEN BY STRAIN
CLERK STEALS MONEY PROBATION TERM GRANTED Faced with financial problems which, to his mind, were insoluble chrough honesty, Reginald Frank Frayling, a clerk, stole £59 5s from his employers at Opotiki. Appearing for sentence before Mr. Justice Smith at the Supreme Court to-day, he was admitted to probation for three years. Mr. G. P. Finlay, who appeared for accused, said sums of £32 and £27 5s had been stolen on two different occasions. He had been employed as * a clerk at Opotiki by the Rotorua Transport Company and was required to render weekly accounts to the head office. He had made no attempt to conceal the thefts. Mr. Finlay went ‘on to say that Frayling had been wounded in the head during the war, and in addition to this was beset by financial problems. Being pressed for rent, and maintenance for his wife, he gave way under the pressure. Terms of the probation were that Frayling should be prohibited, and make restitution at the rate of £5 every two months.
