Roberton and Mrs. Roberton returned to Auckland last evening by the Port Darwin from Liverpool. They are staying with Dr. Ernest Roberton, Remuera Road. * * * Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred Tangye arrived in Auckland by the Port Darwin last evening from England, and are staying at Hotel Cargen. They wall go on to Morrinsville in a few weeks’ time. ODDFELLOWS’ DANCE BIRKENHEAD SHOW The Birkenhead branch of the Manchester Unity Independent> Order of Oddfellows held a very successful dance in the Victoria Hall on Saturday evening. AUCKLAND SAVAGES ENTERTAIN WOMEN LADIES’ NIGHT A most successful and entertaining , evening was the annual “Ladies’ j Night” held by tire Auckland Savage Club in Lewis Lady’s Hall on Saturday night. Rangatira Savage, W. H. Parker, i C.M.G., C.8.E., was duly installed by Savago T. T. Garland and then the proceedings commenced with the singing of the National Anthem and the Savages’ “Opening Ode.” A splendid programme had been arranged, and items by the orchestra under tho baton of Savage Harold Bax- j ter were particualrly appreciated. Vocal j items were contributed by Messrs. ; ! Harvie, Baker, Savage Bryden, of j Wellington, and Mr. Stan Pritchard, j Savages Montague, MeKivitt and Garland entertained with elocutionary items and humour. A harp solo by Mr. Carter was enthusiastically received. Supper, of course, was a feature of the evening. The singing of the Closing Ode and tho National Anthem concluded a most enjoyable function. AMBULANCE SISTERS GOING TO TIMARU FOR COMPETITIONS SOCIAL EVENING TO RAISE FUNDS A most enjoyable evening was held by the superintendent, officers and members of the National Reserve Nursing Division at the Ambulance Station on Saturday to raise funds to send a team of trained ambulance sisters to compete at the Timaru Ambulance Competitions. Mr. C. J. Tunks, commissioner in charge of the district, Mr. F. J. Hutchinson, district superintendent, and Mr. Schofield, corps superintendent, were present. The Commissioner spoke at length to the members of the Onehunga and National Reserve teams in very kind and appropriate terms of eni couiagement and praise. He appreciI a ted their work and the time they ' had given to practice and training. He j hoped they would bring back the tro- ; phies, and was sure they would at least i carry off one, and that they would i strive for a 100 per cent, efficiency right i throughout the contest. The corps superintendent replied endorsing the remarks of the commissioner, and thanked him on behalf of the divisions for his encouraging remarks. They were accorded many cheers. During the evening various items were rendered and among these were a humorous dialogue by Misses Brown and Whittaker, a song by Miss Gow and a recitation by Miss J. Munroe, which were very much appreciated. Between the items the guests amused themselves with a few dances and several games in which everyone joined to make the evening an overwhelming success. Miss T. Ward was at the piano. The walls were decorated with multi-coloured picture panels and streamers. Among the women officers present were:— Mrs. E. Cammell, lady superintendent of the National Reserve Nursing Division, who wore a charming frock of black georgette trimmed with silver lace. Miss M. MacLeod, superintendent of the Auckland Nursing Division in a frock of grey silk. Nurse Scott, fawn georgette and lace to match.
