DIOCESAN ACTIVITIES

WEEK-END FUNCTIONS To mark the observance of Synod Sunday special services were held at St. Mary’s Cathedral yesterday. Archbishop Averill acted as celebrant at Holy Communion at 8 o’clock, and the preacher at the morning service was the Rev. Edgar Ward, of Kaitaia, evensong being conducted by Bishop WestWatson, of Christchurch. Synodsmen paid a visit to King’s College in the afternoon, where they were entertained by the ha.dmaster, Canon H. K. Archdall. On Saturday morning the warden of St. John’s College, Tamaki, met past students and other synqdsmen at the college. A special service was held in the chapel, the preacher being the Rev. J. G. Castle, headmaster of King’s School. The annual meeting of the Old Students* Association was held, and the visitors were entertained at luncheon by the warden. Archbishop Averill and Mrs. Averill held an At Home at Bishopscourt, Parnell, In the afternoon, when a large number of guests were present. Synod will resume business this afternoon, and the session is expected to conclude to-morrow.
