ILLICIT GAMBLING
CLERK PLEADS GUILTY “NOT THE PRINCIPAL” “He is not the principal in this affair/' said Chief-Detective Hammond at the Police Court this morning in applying to have William Kawite remanded until Friday. Kawite, who described himself as a clerk and gave his age as 35, was charged with using the premises known as the New Zealand Mining Chambers, Exchange Lane, as a common gaming house. Mr. F. D. McLivcr entered a plea of guilty and expressed his willingness to go on with the hearing, but Mr. Hammond preferred to take the adjournment. Bail was allowed in accused’s own recognisance of .£IOO.
