NEWMARKET BUSINESSMEN RESENT MAYOR’S POSTER ANNOYED AT “INSINUATION” Some of Newmarket’s business men are annoyed this morning over a flaring yellow bulletin, whifch has been issued ■by the Mayor, Mr. S. Donaldson. The poster Is headed “Caution, to Ratepayers, Newmarjfet," and it reads: There is; no inte.ntipn of shifting the safety zone outside the railway station entrance.. in Broadway. That is a permanent fixture.. The loan provides for an additional safety zone in the Triangle.. . So do not be misled by wild statements of ■unscrupulous men who are misrepresenting the true position. These men are prompted by selfish motives to prevent long overdue improvements being carried out.” Business men resent the allegations strongly. They say that though they object to the proposals to alter the present tramway system, they have never suggested that the present safety zone was to be shifted. At the meeting convened by Cr. H. Gregory last Friday there was no mention of a proposal to shift the zone, but the meeting objected to tlje present section on the inward route being removed. “Seven councillors object to the alteration of the tramway system,” explained Messrs. H. Gregory and H. J. Cooper this morning. “We are annoyed over the insinuation that the idea of the shifting of the zone is being used as a lever to get votes against the poll. The only mention of the removing of the zone has been in letters to the Press, 1 ohe appearing in the Mayor’s own paper.”
