LORD LONSDALE HONOURED THISTLE TO LORD STRATHMORE British Official Wireless RUGBY. Thursday. King George has approved that the Earl of Lonsdale be appointed a Knight of the Garter. The Bari of Lonsdale, who is a large landowner in the North of England, has become one of the most popular persons in the country by his keen association with various forms of sport. He is one of the most active members of the Jockey Club and one of the most prominent supporters of boxing. . ... The King has also approved that the Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne be appointed a Knight of the Thistle. The Scottish Earldom of Strathmore was created in 1677. The present earl is the 14th. He is the father of the Duchess of York.
