CAULFIELD CUP
RUN NEXT SATURDAY MEETING OPENS TO-DAY The Caullield Cup meeting opens at Caulfield to-day, and will be continued on Wednesday and Saturday, the Cup being run on the final day. One of the most interesting events on to-day’s card is the Caulfield Guineas, one mile, in which Mollison is engaged, and it is pretty safe to assume that he will be a hot favourite. It will take a champion to down the son of Seremond. Hamulus ran well enough at Randwick to suggest that he may be a dangerous opponent, and then there is the brilliant Balmerino. Debutante Stakes, of £1,500; 4 fyrlongs; for two-year-olds; closed with 240 nominations. . Caulfield Stakes, of x £1,500; 9 furlongs; weight-for-age. Kingwood Steeplechase, of £600; 2 miles. Toorak Handicap, of £1,500; 1 mile; closed with 191 nominations . A cable from Melbourne yesterday conveyed the following information: The horse Opera Queen arrived at Caulfield from Adelaide to-day, and will run in the Derby and the Oaks. M. McCarten is expected to ride Hynanna in the Caulfield Stakes, and Thurnbell on the first division of tomorrow’s welter. J. Munro will ride Amounis in the Stakes, and St. Andrew in the Debutante Stakes. Mollison cantered at Caulfied today and moved freely.—A.P.A,
