Strawberries and Potatoes ! BEETROOT ROUGE Plenty of fruit for the complexion. That is a maxim many women believe infallible. But they all don’t take the same meaning from it. Some consider fruit best taken externally, In the latest craze for fruit complexions, while others stick to the good old-fashioned way of eating it. Summer time, when the fruit is plentiful upon the trees and shrubs, is a season of delights for her who experiments with faddish cosmetics. Lemon has always been among the bleaching fruit used, but this year beetroot juice claims attention for cheek and lip colouring. And delicious strawberries will be sacrificed on the altar of beauty. Some beauty specialists say that strawberry juice has magical properties for whitening and smoothing the skin. Poor old potato has its restrictions. It is considered a good vegetable for cleansing and softening the hands, but not suitable for the face.
PROTECT THE SKIN THE EYES, TOO Some women think that if,their skin is of the tougher sort, it will not be affected by weather conditions. They don’t feel any discomfort after being all day in the open air, and forget that they will sooner or later feel the effects of neglect. It may take some time, certainly, but gradually the skin Will coarsen and get duller, the reason being that it has lost some of its vitality. This is the toll continuous exposure exaets. On the days that you are going to do a lot of motoring, when playing golf, hockey or tennis, it is a good plan to use a protective lotion which has a sediment that is evenly distributed over the skin, and this affords protection from sun and wind. Eyestrain is responsible for the fine lines round the eyes which come from screwing them up. In this ease suitable glasses are needed. Red noses are often the result of congestion caused by eyestrain. Use a lotion if the eyes are tired, or, failing' that, a pad of cotton-wool dipped in rose water, with a handkerchief placed over and left for ten minutes, will take away the burning feeling. When there are heavy lines round the eyes, you will need to pat in a skin food at night. You cannot be too careful about the way this is done, as the skin under the eyes 1b very delicate, and must on no account be stretched. When one spends much time out of doors in sunny weather, it is advisable to bathe the eyes every night with a warm boraeie lotion and an eye-bath.
