A POWER IN PICTUREDOM
VOTHIXO shows more clearly the remarkable opportunities in the amusement world for young men who have imagination, courage and ability, than does the career of this young entrepreneur. In 1921 Mr. O’Brien forsook his managerial status and became the lessee of the old Empire Theatre in Dunedin. Today he controls in all ten theatres, seven of which are here in Auckland. The new Empire De Luxe, in Dunedin, is his own creation, and has cost nearly one hundred thousand pounds, including the land. He has recently secured in the heart of Auckland City, at the intersection of its two busiest streets, the finest theatre site in Australasia, upon which it is into build a replica of Dunedin’s beautiful atmospheric theatre, or, if possible, even on a grander scale.
