MUSEUM BILL’S SUCCESS
INSTITUTE MEMBERS PLEASED MR. VAILE CONGRATULATED Members of the Auckland Institute and Museum. Council are pleased at the passage of the War Memorial Museum and Maintenance Bill. At a meeting yesterday votes of thanks were acorded Mr. J. S. Dickson, M.P., and Mr. H. M. Kogerson, the Institute’s solicitor, for their services in the later stages of the negotiations. The president, Mr. H. E. Vaile. said it was satisfying to know that the finances had been placed on a better footing. Local bodies, under the Act, would provide £5,700. and Institute resources would yield about £2,000. Mr. A. G. Lunn praised Mr. Vaile for his work in persuading Auckland local bodies to agree to the financial proposals. A letter was received from the Helensville Town Board, stating it had \ resolved to protest against the inclusion of its district in the area comprised in the Bill. The president remarked that the protest had been made too late. A vote of thanks was passed to the University College Council for granting the use of its buildings for the New Zealand science congress in January. Messrs. A. J. Entrican,. A* G. Lunn and J. Kenderdine were appointed a finance committee, and Sir Edwin Mitchelson. Mr. W. Cecil Leys and Professor J. C. Sperrin-Johnson a social committee, preliminary to the congress. The president was included, ex officio, in both committees.
