COUNTRY SCHOOL SHOWS ENTHUSIASM IN SWIMMING
“T CANNOT recollect a parallel case of enthusiasm shown by a country school/’ said the chairman. Mr. J. Enwright, at a meeting of % the Auckland Swimming Centre, last evening, when the educational officer, Mr. L. Brighton, reported that the headmaster of the Parawera native school had forwarded five shillings, collected by the school children, a® a donation toward the educational fund. The money was forwarded as a mark of appreciation for the -eceipt of swimming certificates. Mr. Brighton said he had written to the headmaster, expressing the centre’s appreciation of the donation. However, he had returned the money, as the certificates were issued free. He expressed the centre’s desire that the money should be used as a trophy for such a competition as life-saving.
