UNEXPECTED KNOCK-OUT

It was after ne liad suffered the worst of the deal that Wesley Ketchell (U.S.A.) knocked out George Thompson, heavy-weight champion of Australia, in the seventh round of their fight at the Sydney Stadium. Ketchell weighed 11.5 to Thompson’s 12.10. The American, who is a “southpaw,” was in a bad way in the fourth round, and was only just able to regain his feet at a count of nine seconds. In the sixth round Thompson seemed to have victory well within his grasp. But, forcing the fight in the seventh round, Ketchell scored well in two hard rallies and then whipped in a left uppercut that finished the fight.
