Monson has Chance to Turn the Tables
FIGHT AGAINST McINNES ROUSING CONTEST IN PROSPECT The return boxing contest between Tommy Mclnnes, of Scotland, and Ted Monson, middle-weight champion of Austraila, will be. staged at the Auckland Town Hall on Monday evening. A purse of £2OO is involved. When the pair met in the Auckland ring toward the end of last month a fine fight was witnessed, and at the end of 15 rounds little separated the pair. In the second round, Mclnnes felt the weight of Monson’s punch, and visited the canvas, but he came away to score a win on points. The Scot has demonstrated his worth as a boxer and fighter in the Auckland ring? He easily disposed of Clarrie Pocock on his first appearance in New Zealand, and followed up with a great display against Lachie McDonald in one of the best fights seen in this city. His next bout was with Monson, and was quite up to his other displays. He has established himself a firm favourite with Auckland followers of the sport. A WORTHY OPPONENT When he faced Mclnnes last month, Monson was making his first appearance m New Zealand, but he proved that he was a worthy holder of the Australian title. He was dissatisfied with the decision on that occasion, and is anxious to prove that he is the master of the Scot. He is a fighter all the way, and carries a punch in either hand which makes him respected by his opponents. The fight on Monday evening should give Auckland fans another feast of fistic entertainment. The last two fights have been great contests, and this should make a worthy third. In addition a good programme of amateur bouts has been arranged.
