CAMPS BURNED OUT

BUSH FIRES IN SOUTH (Special to THE SUNJ CHRISTCHURCH, Thursday. Serious damage has been done by fires during the last few days to the bush country in the Black Miller area. The Ohau Basin, 16 miles north of Kaikoura, suffered extensively. Two camps were wiped out on the top of the Ohau Basin, and seven or eight men lost their belongings. Two scenic reserves adjoining the Ohau Basin have been badly damaged by fire, and many camping depots beyond the Hapuku Bridge have been demolished. There is little wind in the ranges, and the latest advice suggests that the fire will soon burn itself out. Reports from Kaikoura stated that the fires were practically out. Reports of damage there are very conflicting, but stock losses seem to have been only slight.
