LYRIC
“WHEN FLEET MEETS FLEET” A romantic drama, with the mighty battle of Jutland as a background, entitled “When Fleet Meats Fleet,” will be shown at the Lyric Theatre this evening. Before her marriage to Otto Barnow, a commander in the German Navy, Krica Williams lived in glorious Devon, where her best friend was Dick Norton, then a young British naval officer, struggling for promotion. Dick Norton fell in love with the beautiful girl, but Commander Barnow won her, and took her back to Germany. It was at the Kiel regatta of 1914 that these three met again. Commander Barnow as commander aboard the German ship Grand Duke, and Dick Norton commander of H.M.S. Invincible. The British fleet was received with all the pomp and ceremony of peace-time splendour. Parties, balls, and festivities were the order of the day. Into this peace-time gaiety dropped the bomb of assassination of the Archduke Ferdinand, and the recall of the British Navy. The three friends promised each other that, whatever- happened, their friendship should never be broken, but the devastation of the war broke many such promises, and soon tho whole of Europe was wafted into flame. The cast contains both British and Continental stars of high repute, and the picture contains some marvellous and exclusive scenes supplied from British and German official quarters, which are in themselves a guarantee of accuracy. A second feature will als be shown. This will be “Partners in Crime,” the latest comedy-drama by the two wellknown comedians, Wallace Beery and Raymond Hatton.
