RAILWAY SEATS
RESERVATIONS UNRESTRICTED NEW RULE FROM MONDAY The regulation prohibiting the reservation of seats for a distance of less than 100 miles on the railways is to be removed. From next Monday railway passengers will be able to reserve seats .to and from any stopping station on any train except the Limited express. This latest innovation by the Railway Department will be welcomed by '■ train travellers and will tend to make the railways more popular. The old regulation was irksome, especially for people who were travelling distances of just under 100 miles. The Limited is the only train on which the old regulation will still hold good, but -even on that train there are to be alterations. Seats which have been reserved from Fraokton Junction downwards may be reserved from Auckland to Frankton Junction. If sufficient passengers are offering at any time, an extra car will be added to the Limited between Palmerston North and Wellington in the South and Frankton Junction and Auckland in the North. Frequently large numbers of passengers, especially in holiday time, wish to join- the train at these stations, and usually there is no room for them. • Apparently the new general manager, Mr. H. H. Sterling, is determined to make the railways both popular and profitable.
