STOLE FROM SHOP TILL

CARPENTER DISCHARGED NO GROUNDS FOR APPEAL Percy Arthur Bailey, a carpenter, aged 48, who was convicted of stealing £2 10s from the shop of Elizabeth Gwillim, in Parnell, on August 14, appeared before Mr. W. R. McKean. S.M., this morning for sentence. In tlie meantime, Bailey had appealed to the Supreme Court against Mr. McKean’s decision, but wae told that there were no grounds for an appeal. “If restitution had been made,’’ said tlie Magistrate this morning, “I would not have punished Bailey further, but. as it is, I think he should get 14 days.’’ Bailey protested that he had made restitution of £2 10s. hut Mr. McKean said he thought that was security for appeal. Chief-Detective Hammond said that the £2 10s had been intended as restitution and Bailey was discharged.
