BUSH RESERVES BURNED

FIRES NEAR KAIKOURA (Special to THE SUN) CHRISTCHURCH, Wednesday. Large bush fires raging on. the ranges north of Kaikoura, principally in the Mount Fyfi:e region, have destroyed the reserve above Hapuku, Great quantities of shingle have now travelled down the watercourse on to the flats. Stock is reported to have been destroyed on Mr. P. Adair’s properly, near the Main North Road. In the Puhi Valley, on Mr. Fairweather’s property. acres of bush have been destroyed. There is no confirmation of any damage to property beyond the destruction of the bush. There was a strong wind at Kaikoura last evening, and to-day the bush was still on fire. It is thought that the Ohau reserve has also been destroyed.
